Hey my name is Shanique (pronounced Sha-Nee-Qwa). 7 years ago, I moved to New York with $800.00 and a scholarship to Pratt Institute to study fashion design. My mission was simple, I wanted to make a name for myself. I thought first hand to take advantage of the experience and knowledge while living in New York. My first semester in college, I interned at Naeem Khan as a fashion assistant. For those of you who don't know Naeem Khan designed the inauguration dress for Michelle Obama. Throughout my college years, I continued to intern for fashion companies such as Michael Kors, J Rosen Showroom and Zara. In 2015 I received a bachelor's degree in fashion design from Pratt Institute. After graduating college, I began freelancing for companies such as Tracy Reese, Burberry and Roberto Cavalli. Though I have a bachelor's degree and experiences in the fashion industry, it became harder for me to find a permanent job. On December 25, 2016 after losing my job I started this blog with an interest in fashion journalism. Since I already had experience in the fashion industry, I decided blogging would be a great platform to show my knowledge and love for fashion. Since blogging, I have partnered with Suave as a hair ambassador. I recently started a new job doing marketing and social media in addition to my current job at Kate Spade which I am also doing marketing. With my following growing on social media, I have become a role model for young women who are interested in fashion. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s hard pursuing a career in fashion but, anything is possible when you have faith. I’d hope my story inspired you.
